Junior/Intermediate Power Systems Engineer
Full Job Description
PGSC is a boutique engineering consulting firm servicing electrical grid connections in Alberta for over a decade. We are currently seeking Junior/Intermediate Power Systems Engineers to fulfill positions in Calgary. The candidate will require a Bachelor’s Degree and have a strong fundamental understanding of power systems to support all aspects of transmission studies regarding power flow, voltage stability, transient stability, and other power systems analyses.
Responsibilities
- Will perform high voltage transmission grid interconnection studies using PSS/E. Studies include power flow, voltage stability, transient stability and short circuit analyses.
- Will support senior engineer in preparing technical reports.
- Create conceptual drawings, schematics and diagrams for electrical transmission, distribution, metering and communications systems.
Qualification and Skills
- Bachelor’s Degree in a University Electrical Engineering program or equivalent
- Registered as a Professional Engineer with APEGA or eligible for registration
- Strong knowledge in electrical power systems, synchronous generator, motor, power electronic inverters, wind turbines, and solar
- Experience with transmission studies on power flow, voltage stability, and other power system analyses.
- Experience with PSS/E, DSA tools, ETAP, or PSCAD would be an beneficial.
- PSS/E IPLAN and/or Python programming is an asset.
- Knowledge of static and dynamic modelling of power systems components in PSS/E or DSA tools, including HVDC, VSC, Static Var Compensators, STATCOM and Thyristor Controlled Series Capacitors.
- Basic knowledge of substation layout and protection and controls.
- Exceptional written and verbal communication skills.
